Chapter 5 of Romans has often been referred to as the "benefits package" chapter. The first four chapters gave us densely packed information that is designed to help us fully grasp the reality that we are now justified by faith. We are, from God's declaration, sin free, forgiven, and redeemed. We are saved by grace through faith and now because of this, chapter 5 tells us, that we have forgiveness, love, supernatural protection, supernatural provisions, access to God through prayer, power and authority, and security. All of these things are now given to us by the grace of God. So, we can either surrender to the grace of God or we can continue to oppose Him. All of Scripture invites us to surrender and Romans 5 is especially wooing us to surrender. The benefits of surrender are out of this world.
