God created everything for His glory. We exist to glorify Him, both by our existence and even more so by our volition. We alone, in all of creation, have a choice about whether we will glorify God or not. So, every time we sin it is an exercise of our free will whereby we refuse to honor God and instead fulfill some perception of fleshly satisfaction or pleasure that chooses us over God. We are saying, God, we will not honor you as the supreme creator and we will not be thankful for any benefits we have received from you up to and including life itself. This is the foundational philosophy of idolatry and Romans 1:21-28 unpacks this for us very clearly.
