You Are Better than Life
Many of the Psalms contain a prayer from David for God to preserve his life. Many others are gratitude for God saving David. So much of David's life experience is consumed with him saying, "God help me", "I'm in trouble" or "God, thank you for helping me". In so many occasions he is worried for his life or well being. Have you experienced this yet in life? There are undoubtedly times in our life where our prayer becomes desperate just like David. But then we get to Psalm 63 and we see David, who spent so much of his time begging God to intervene in his circumstances, now come to the reality that better circumstances is not what satisfies. He doesn't want God to fix anything he just wants God near him and tells God that He is better than life itself. So much of our lives are spent trying to get a better situation but David tells us that we already have the best situation. There is nothing in this life, no circumstance so great that it could ever compare to the value of just experiencing God in a personal, intimate way.
