Don't Let Your Passion Subside

Chapter 22 in the book of Numbers introduces us to Balaam and the story of the talking donkey that many of us are probably familiar with. As we read through this story in the following chapters of Numbers, we realize that we do not have a clear picture of why things happened the way they did. It is not until we get to the end of the New Testament that we are given full disclosure into this story. We find that Balaam and the nation of Israel had succumb to two idols that we struggle with so much even in today's age. Those two idols are greed and lust. We can see in this story that if God is not our passion then something else will take His place. Most often the things that take His place are what we like to call "wealth" and "romance". There is nothing wrong with either one of these until we are willing to compromise the Word of God for them. Let's open our eyes and comprehend that our passion for God should cause us to neglect our selfish desires. Rather than the passion for self, causing us to neglect the Words of God.
