That We Might Not Sin

Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." (NIV) The bottom line is that sin is a heart condition. In Mark 7:21-23, Jesus tells us, "For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come - sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person." (NIV) No one will overcome the corruptions of the heart except by the enabling strength of the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God is the only power that is greater than our heart. So, to increase our holiness we must increase our dependence on the Spirit of God. The two simple measures that are a means to increasing our dependence on the Spirit of God are Bible intake and Prayer. We have heard this said over and over but in order for these things to make a difference in our lives, we must train daily in order to compete at a level of excellence.
