The Quest for Righteousness
The sermon on the mount is sufficient for everything we need in this life. We are grateful that God didn't stop there but it alone is a capable instructor to eternal life. The primary subject here is the Kingdom of Heaven and what it means to be righteous before God. After we dig in to this teaching, we soon realize that righteousness through our works, efforts, and good deeds is not just difficult, it is impossible. Jesus is teaching us here that we desire something that is impossible with just us, but it is not impossible with He who is greater than us. So what do we do? We understand that we are not capable apart from Jesus, and we humbly ask Him to make us righteous. Sincere surrender results in a righteous relationship with God and joyful obedience to God.
