Covenant Community

In 1 Samuel 20, we find an example of a covenant relationship between David and Jonathan. There is security in covenant relationships. These promises that we make to each other where we invoke the witness and care of Yahweh, rightly become the source of our human relationship security. These relationships are not merely a love, but a loyal love, not merely a kindness, but a dependable kindness, not just an affection, but an affection that has committed itself. This is what Jesus is offering to us. A covenant that transcends all of the chaos and one that is the ongoing source of peace and joy. A covenant that promises mercy and the forgiveness of sin. A covenant that is unchanging, unforfeitable, untarnishable and is the forever source of peace, refuge, security and loving kindness.
